About
Alcester Opticians was first established in 1957.
For forty years, the practice thrived under the ownership of Mrs Ryder.
Following Mrs Ryder’s retirement in December of 2025 the practice passed to Jim Cox FBDO.
Jim has been a qualified dispensing optician for nearly 30 years and brings a wealth of experience across all aspects of the optical industry to the practice. He has worked in high street optics, manufacturing, surgery sites, and as a senior executive in the ophthalmic medical device industry. In addition, he has written several Continuous Professional Development articles to help and support other Dispensing Opticians.
He loves a well-designed and well-made frame, and this shows in the choices for frame manufacturers that will be arriving in stores from January. In particular, he is a champion for children’s frames that are designed to fit the specific facial anatomy of a child to ensure that they get the most comfort and the best vision from their spectacles.
Jim has teamed up with Carl Zeiss Vision UK to provide the best lenses possible for all patients, from single vision Clearview lenses as our standard offering to completely tailored SmartLife Individual 3 progressive lenses to make the experience of wearing varifocals as easy as can be.
Most importantly, he believes in providing the best in clinical care and over the next few months the test room at Alcester Opticians will be revamped to include the latest diagnostic equipment to provide the highest level of eye care in the area.
